"Island Roads" meets local businesses....

Earlier this week, Island businesses turned out in vast numbers to a “meet the buyer event”, to understand more about the opportunities available within the Highways PFI Project.

Held at the Lakeside Park Hotel at Wootton Bridge, over 150 suppliers, subcontractors and consultants representing a diverse range of trades from photography and CCTV surveying to construction contractors attended. The original plan was to only hold one session in the morning but due to the popularity an additional session was put on for the afternoon.

They were provided with an introduction to Island Roads, details of the scope of works available, and information about how to register their interest to be part of the Island Roads highway service.

Paul Herbert, Island Roads Service Director, said; “We were delighted with the turnout at this event and we hope that those businesses who attended found it to be a worthwhile and informative first step towards working with us”

Island Roads is a local business, employing local people to provide a highways service which reflects local priorities. Island Roads will deliver the full scope of the Highways PFI and, from April next year, will begin upgrading, enhancing and maintaining the Isle of Wight’s 803km of rural and urban roads, 767km of footways, 12,068 street lights, 209 bridges and structures, cycle ways, public car parks, signage, CCTV and street furniture.
