Island Roads’ website upgrade improves online reporting facility

Island Roads’ website has been upgraded to make it easier to report highway defects.

The enhanced ‘Report it online’ facility on www.islandroads.com enables all reported potholes and other defects to be viewed as well as the progress made in respect of each report. The reports are displayed for each of the six districts into which the Island is divided for the purposes of delivering the Highways PFI.

The reports can be viewed on a map, by aerial view or a hybrid of both. Each report is indicated with a colour coded marker, with an explanation of the colour coding at the bottom of the page.  If you click on an individual tag it gives more detail of the status and progress which is then updated as action is taken. Other improvements have been made to make the site easier to use and more informative and the site can now be accessed using mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

Island Roads performance manager Tracy Ringer said: “While we have a network of district stewards and district responders out and about to complement our routine inspections, having members of the public report defects and potholes also helps us keep the network up to standard.

“We hope that the public will continue to report any issues they encounter and also to check on the progress we make in respect of their report.”

The improvement to the website comes as the country enters the winter months when freezing temperatures create the conditions for potholes to form. Given both the historically poor state of the Island’s network and the fact that Island Roads in not yet through the third full year of a seven-year programme to bring it up to standard, it is inevitable that there will be defects occurring in the coming months.

Island Roads is committed to applying whatever resources are necessary in order to fulfil the obligations in respect of keeping the network safe. At the height of the ‘pothole season’ last year Island Roads had up to eight crews between them working around the clock to repair defects.

The ‘Report it online’ function – which is also designed for mobile phone use - can be accessed on the following link:
