Blackrock Bridge works

Work to replace the bridge deck at Blackrock bridge near Alverstone is due to start shortly.

The work which will begin on 21st November, will involve the removal and replacement of the central part of the approx. ten-metre-long bridge as well as repairing and painting the main steel outer beams and parapets.  This will improve the load capacity of the bridge so that maintenance vehicles can travel along the cycle path when required.

In order to carry out this work, Island Roads will need to close the cycle path between Langbridge, Newchurch and Alverstone.  Diversions for cyclists using local roads and for pedestrians using the

footpath network will be shown on information signs at each end of the closure, and a copy of this is included in the plan linked to this page below.  In addition, users of the cycle path will be able to scan a QR code located on site, providing a link to this page on their mobile devices.

Works will continue until January 2020, with progress depending largely on the weather over this early Winter season.  Please monitor this web page or the Island Roads Twitter account for any updates on when the path will be reopened.
