The Way Forward Programme

Training and Qualification

The Way Forward Programme is part of the Isle of Wight based charity Osel Enterprises. The programme supports young people and adults from 12 years of age to retirement and beyond with learning or physical disabilities, people on the Autistic Spectrum and people who struggle with Mental Health conditions, offering a 7 day a week, day, night and evening service.

The programme is run from Downside Community Centre in Newport delivering different workshops and activities Islandwide. The project will help deliver basic skills and training for work preparation.

The project works with accredited awarding bodies (ASDAN) to embed curriculum development within the Way Forward Programme. Training and qualification will be offered that explicitly helps and supports our learners to grow the skills for learning, skills for employment and skills for life.

By offering basic training and qualifications in key areas it will enable individuals with no qualification to enter the working world, an aspiration by many. A few of these qualifications are:

- Life Skills - Towards Independence

- Conservation

- Photography

- Information Technology

- Back to Work

The work preparation for training will be done in house by qualified personnel and The Way Forward Programme has a good ongoing working relationship with many businesses across the Island, these businesses are able to offer both long and short term placements.

The Way Forward Programme supports over 100 people per week. By offering a more structure programme, this will hopefully encourage more people to participate.
